Saie launched in 2019 with a tinted moisturizer and a clear thesis: clean makeup can perform on par with conventional prestige, not in spite of clean formulation but because of it. Founder Laney Crowell came from the beauty industry and built the no-list — the ingredients Saie refuses to use — before writing a single product brief. The formulation came second. That sequence matters.

Four years and several product lines later, Saie is one of the top-stocked brands at Credo Beauty, the strictest clean-beauty retailer. I spent 60 days with their core lineup. Here’s what the daily reality looks like.

What “Clean” Means at Saie

Saie’s formulation standards rest on three pillars:

The No List: 1,600+ ingredients banned from all Saie formulations. Includes parabens, phthalates, oxybenzone and octinoxate (in SPF), formaldehyde donors, coal tar dyes, synthetic fragrance, and more.

EWG Scoring: Saie submits products to EWG Skin Deep for scoring. Most products land 1-2. The few that score 3 have disclosed individual components publicly.

Credo Dirty List: Saie is available at Credo Beauty, which means every product clears Credo’s 2,700-ingredient screen — stricter than Saie’s own no-list. The double filter is meaningful for ingredients that slip through individual brand screens.

This is not greenwashing. The formulations are genuinely different from conventional cosmetics at a molecular level.

Glowy Super Gel — The Standout

$29 · Available at Credo Beauty

The Glowy Super Gel is the Saie product that created a waiting list when it launched and continues to be the most-recommended item in the lineup for good reason. It’s a clear gel highlighter — not a shimmer, not a glitter — that adds luminosity to skin by creating a subtle light-scatter effect.

Applied under tinted moisturizer or foundation, it lifts the skin-finish from flat to dimensional. Applied over as a topper, it reads as an expensive glow-product without the mica-particle look.

Ingredients: water, glycerin, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide. Essentially a skincare formula packaged as a makeup product. EWG score: 1.

In 60 days I went through most of a tube. That’s a strong endorsement.

Slip Tint Dewy Tinted Moisturizer — Read the Fine Print

$38 · Available at Credo Beauty

The Slip Tint is Saie’s original product and gets the most marketing attention. Seventeen shades, SPF 35 mineral, buildable coverage. The honest review: it’s a tinted moisturizer, not a foundation.

Coverage is sheer-to-light. I tried doubling the application to get medium coverage — the result was a slightly heavier dewy finish, not coverage. If you have acne, melasma, or uneven pigment you want covered, the Slip Tint alone will disappoint. Layer concealer or step up to a proper foundation.

Where it excels: evening texture, adding a healthy luminosity to clear or lightly-marked skin, and delivering mineral SPF without a white cast (on light to medium skin tones — darker tones should check the shade range carefully). The formula layers under my regular makeup routine without pilling, which is the make-or-break test for a mineral SPF used as a makeup base.

Sun Visor SPF 35 — The Clean SPF That Actually Works Under Makeup

$34 · Available at Credo Beauty

Mineral sunscreen for makeup wearers is notoriously hard. Zinc oxide goes on thick. It balls under foundation. It leaves a cast.

The Sun Visor addresses all three. The zinc is micronized (disclosed as non-nano) in a fluid emulsion that spreads easily. The finish is dewy rather than matte, which means it doesn’t create the dry-skin effect that causes foundation to cling and break. I tested it under the Slip Tint, under an ILIA liquid foundation, and under a clean concealer — all three layered without balling.

White cast: minimal on my NC20 complexion. I had a friend with a deeper complexion (NC40) test it; she reported a slight ashiness that required blending. The shade range problem for mineral SPF is real and unsolved across the category.

As a standalone daily face SPF, it’s one of the better clean options I’ve found in the sub-$40 range. Compare it to the EWG Verified options in our mineral sunscreen roundup.

Mascara 101 — Honest Assessment

$26 · Available at Credo Beauty

Clean mascara is hard. The conventional options that survive humidity, sweat, and crying use film-forming polymers and waxes that either test poorly on EWG or require conventional makeup removers. Clean formulas use waxes, natural polymers, and conditioning ingredients that perform well under controlled conditions and less well under real ones.

The Saie Mascara 101 performs well for a dry workday. Separate lashes, modest length extension, natural-fiber brush that doesn’t deposit too much product at once. After eight hours at a desk, it looked fine.

After a one-hour walk in 80°F humidity, there was ghost raccoon smudge under my eyes. Not catastrophic. Not a spin class — see our mascara stress-test for which clean mascaras actually survive sweat.

The tradeoff is the tradeoff. If you need waterproof performance, the Saie mascara is not it. For normal days, it’s a clean formula that does what mascaras do.

Dew Blush Liquid Blush — Fast Hands Required

$28 · Available at Credo Beauty

Six shades in a sheer liquid formula. The Dew Blush dries down to a natural flush that looks genuinely skin-like — not the heavily-pigmented powder-blush look, and not the streaky result of some liquid blushes. But it dries down quickly. Blend immediately or it will streak.

The fastest application method: dot directly on cheeks from the dropper tip and blend immediately with warm fingertips. A brush takes longer to move product than the formula’s drying time allows. Once blended and set, it holds for 6-7 hours.

How Saie Compares to ILIA

Saie and ILIA are the two most-cited clean prestige makeup brands in 2026. They’re complementary rather than duplicative:

Where to Buy Saie

Credo Beauty is the preferred retailer for clean-beauty buyers because the Dirty List provides a secondary ingredient screen, returns are easy, and the brand sits next to other clean options for direct comparison. You can also buy at Saie’s direct site (saiebeauty.com) or Sephora.

If you’re building a complete clean routine from scratch, the Complete Clean Beauty Guide 2026 maps out the full swap sequence across skincare, hair, and makeup. Start with SPF regardless of which brand you choose — sun damage is the anti-aging investment that nothing downstream can reverse.

Our Top Picks

🌿

Saie Glowy Super Gel

4.7 / 5

The standout product in the Saie lineup. A clear gel highlighter that sits under or over foundation for a lit-from-within finish. Minimal ingredients, strong EWG score. The product most likely to convert skeptics.

🌿

Saie Slip Tint Dewy Tinted Moisturizer

4.5 / 5

Buildable SPF 35 tinted moisturizer with 17 shades. Sheepish admission: the coverage is more 'your skin but better' than 'actually covers anything.' For blemish coverage you'll need concealer. For texture evenness, it's excellent.

🌿

Saie Sun Visor SPF 35 Daily Face Sunscreen

4.6 / 5

Mineral SPF with zinc oxide, no white cast on medium skin tones, slight dewy finish. One of the better-performing clean SPFs in the $30-40 range. Layerable — doesn't ball under makeup.

🌿

Saie Mascara 101

4.1 / 5

Natural fiber brush, clean formula. Separates and lengthens. Does not survive a humid workout without smudging. For a regular office day or low-sweat activities, it performs. Not waterproof.

🌿

Saie Dew Blush Liquid Blush

4.4 / 5

Lightweight liquid blush in six shades. Dries down to a natural flush. Best applied with fingers; dries too quickly for brush application. Long-wearing when blended immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Saie makeup actually clean?
Yes, by rigorous standards. Saie's 'no list' bans over 1,600 ingredients. Products are EWG-verified or score 1-3 on Skin Deep. They're also sold at Credo Beauty, which adds the Dirty List screen (2,700+ banned ingredients) as a secondary filter. Clean credentials are among the strongest of any prestige makeup brand.
How does Saie compare to ILIA?
Saie and ILIA target the same clean-beauty makeup buyer. ILIA has a wider foundation range and stronger skincare hybrids (skin tints with serum actives). Saie's Glowy Super Gel is a differentiated product with no real ILIA equivalent. On mascara, neither brand has cracked waterproof without compromising clean formulas. See our full ILIA review at [ILIA Beauty Review 2026](/posts/ilia-beauty-review-2026/).
Where is the best place to buy Saie?
Credo Beauty (in-store or online) is the best option for clean-beauty buyers — you get Credo's ingredient screen as a backstop, easy access to other clean brands for comparison, and returns that don't penalize you for trying. Saie is also available direct at saiebeauty.com.
Does the Saie Slip Tint actually cover acne?
No. The Slip Tint is a sheer tinted moisturizer with SPF, not a coverage product. If blemishes are a concern, layer a clean concealer on top. Saie makes a Concealer Stick that pairs well with the Slip Tint for targeted coverage while keeping the overall finish natural.
